The NBA world was left scratching their heads when it came to Joel Embiid's availability for the Philadelphia 76ers' game against the Washington Wizards. After initially being left off the injury report, despite admitting he was playing with an illness against the Miami Heat, things took a surprising turn on the morning of the Wizards matchup. Embiid suddenly appeared on the injury report, leaving both fans and analysts wondering what could have possibly changed in such a short amount of time. But as it turns out, the outspoken center had plenty to say about the situation. In a post-game interview following the Sixers' win over the Minnesota Timberwolves, Embiid didn't shy away from expressing his frustration with the team's decision. "I'm still trying to figure that one out myself," Embiid said when asked about being added to the injury report. The 26-year-old went on to reveal that he had been dealing with a sore back since the Miami game, which was the reason he was initially left off the report. However, after speaking with the team's doctors and trainers, he was given clearance to play against the Wizards. "I felt great today and I felt fine yesterday," Embiid stated. "Last night, I started having some back tightness and (the doctors) didn't know how it happened, they just felt like I should be on the injury report." It's not the first time that Embiid has found himself at odds with the Sixers' medical staff. In the past, he's publicly criticized the team for their handling of his injuries, including last season when he sat out multiple games due to a left knee injury. But despite the continued tension between player and organization, Embiid showed no signs of being slowed down on the court. In fact, he put on a dominating performance against the Wizards, finishing with 38 points and 8 rebounds in just 28 minutes of play. "It's the way the game was going," Embiid explained. "We didn't want to risk anything, so they just made the decision that I shouldn't play in the second half. But I felt good." This latest situation highlights the ongoing saga of Embiid's health and the never-ending scrutiny surrounding it. It's a storyline that has followed him since his time at the University of Kansas and has continued throughout his now six-year NBA career. But despite the constant chatter surrounding his health, Embiid continues to prove time and time again that he can rise above it. He's established himself as one of the top players in the league, earning All-Star nods in each of the past three seasons and leading the Sixers to consistent playoff appearances. His determination and resilience are a testament to his work ethic and love for the game. And although there may be bumps along the way, Embiid always finds a way to stay positive and motivated. After all, it's all about the love of the game for him. As he stated in the post-game conference, "I'm playing for the love of basketball and I just want to win." So, while the Sixers' decision to add Embiid to the injury report may have caused some confusion, it's clear that the big man isn't letting it get in the way of his ultimate goal - bringing home a championship for the city of Philadelphia.
