Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has responded to recent comments made by US President Donald Trump regarding rising oil prices and the country’s nuclear program. Araghchi’s remarks come after Trump stated that the increase in oil prices benefits the US, but his top priority is to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons.
In a recent interview, Trump stated, “We are making a lot of money with our energy. With the oil prices going up, we have a lot of great things happening in the country. We have a tremendous energy. But I would like to see Iran end their nuclear program. That’s my priority.”
Araghchi, who is also Iran’s top nuclear negotiator, responded to Trump’s comments by saying that Iran has no intention of developing nuclear weapons. He emphasized that the country’s nuclear program is solely for peaceful purposes and is in full compliance with the terms of the 2015 nuclear deal, also known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
Araghchi went on to say that Trump’s statement shows a lack of understanding of the current situation and the importance of the nuclear deal. He stated, “It is clear that the US President has no knowledge or understanding of the nuclear deal or the region. If he had read the JCPOA, he would know that Iran’s nuclear program is peaceful and under the full supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).”
The JCPOA, which was signed between Iran and six world powers, including the US, aimed to limit Iran’s nuclear program and ensure its peaceful nature in exchange for the lifting of economic sanctions. However, in May 2018, the US withdrew from the deal and reimposed sanctions on Iran, causing the country’s economy to suffer.
Since then, Iran has remained committed to the JCPOA but has gradually reduced its compliance with the deal in response to the US’s actions. Araghchi reiterated that Iran’s recent actions are reversible if the US fulfills its obligations under the JCPOA and lifts the sanctions.
Araghchi also addressed Trump’s statement about rising oil prices and how it benefits the US. He stated, “Trump’s statement shows the true intentions of the US. They are only concerned about their own financial gains and not the well-being of the international community. The US’s actions have disrupted the global oil market and caused prices to rise, which has negatively impacted many countries, including Iran.”
Iran has been struggling with a struggling economy due to the US’s sanctions, and the rise in oil prices has only added to the country’s economic woes. Araghchi emphasized that the US’s actions are not only damaging to Iran but also to the international community as a whole.
In conclusion, Araghchi’s remarks serve as a reminder that Iran remains committed to the JCPOA and its peaceful nuclear program. He also highlights the negative impact of the US’s actions on the global community and calls for the US to fulfill its obligations under the nuclear deal. It is essential for the international community to work together to ensure the preservation of the JCPOA and maintain stability in the region.
