Battle of next-Gen: Sehwag wins battle against Dravid in domestic cricket

Aaryavir Sehwag, son of former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag, made a stylish statement in India’s domestic cricket by scoring a gritty fifty versus Karnataka-led by Rahul Dravid’s son Anvay Dravid in the Under-16 Vijay Merchant Trophy. It was a mesmerizing display of the coming together of two of India’s most celebrated cricketing families!

The Karnataka U-16 team were stacked with a formidable batting line-up and to have a solid show against them was a commendable accomplishment by Aaryavir. He scored 56 runs in 97 balls, and that too without any major batting or score-building partners.

Young Aaryavir made full use of the opportunity by unleashing a barrage of attacking shots, showcasing the aggressive batting style for which his father Virender Sehwag was renowned for. Aaryavir was seen taking on the opposition bowlers and going for a range of shots all around the park – sweeps, on-side pulls, upper-cuts – age no bar!

His mature knock helped Delhi U-16 secure a commendable total of 106 and eventually a victory against Karnataka U-16. Rahul Dravid’s son Anvay Dravid had also played a steady knock of 37 but it wasn’t enough as Delhi U-16 won the match by 16 runs.

This was a milestone match which not only pitted the current top two players of cricket together but their families as well in this important domestic clash. Anvay and Aaryavir stood out with marvelous performances against one another and their performances certainly bespoke of their upbringing and the greatness of their fathers who have both been sqved in numerous cricketing records over the years.

The ‘Battle of the next Gen’ is an apt example of how far the game of cricket has come in our country. With Cricket now becoming a way of life in the country, these matches provide much-needed inspiration for budding cricketers in the country. It shows that they can rise through the ranks and make their own mark, regardless of the legacy that their family carries.

Aaryavir is certainly one such exceptional player and it will be interesting to see how far he progresses in the coming years. He is surely someone to watch out for and Delhi are sure to benefit from his explosive batting in the near future. Undoubtedly, the sky is the limit for Aaryavir and he will surely keep his father’s legacy alive in the coming months and years.

With the Father-Son duo of Dravid and Sehwag showing the way to the next generation, it seems like cricket is here to stay in India.
