In Numbers: Jasprit Bumrah on par with Pat Cummins & Kagiso Rabada after 32 Tests

It’s an established fact that Jasprit Bumrah is India’s best fast bowler of this generation, and has staggering numbers across formats. There’s no denying Mohammed Shami is great in his own right too, but Bumrah’s performances have been right up there, with the top bowlers in the world. In the second India vs South Africa Test as well, Bumrah played a crucial role in the latter part of the match and kept the hosts’ target within the team’s reach.

While Mohammed Siraj bagged six wickets in the first innings, Bumrah followed it up with as many, in the next. And with that fifer, Bumrah just further solidified his Test stats.

Bumrah vs Rabada vs Cummins

Bumrah now has 140 wickets in 32 Tests, at an average of 21.21. He has an impressive strike rate of only 46.8 and has nine five-wicket hauls to his name. These numbers are almost on par with those of South Africa’s Rabada, and Australia’s Cummins, who have a slight advantage of playing on wickets that assist the pacers more. While for Bumrah, he plays a major chunk of Tests in India, where his kind might not be the most effective.

So, Rabada at the same stage — after 32 Tests, had 151 wickets to his name, at an average of 21.71. On the other hand, Cummins had picked 153 after 32 matches, at an average of 21.51. While Bumrah might be a touch low on the wickets front, he betters the other two on average. So it might just be safe to say, Bumrah is actually on par with Cummins and Rabada.
