Trump tells Artemis II astronauts he wants their autographs

President Donald Trump surprised the crew of the Artemis II mission on Monday evening by calling in to congratulate them on their successful journey. With excitement in his voice, he praised the crew for their bravery and dedication, and invited them to visit the White House upon their return to Earth.

“I just wanted to call in and say congratulations,” President Trump began, “I’ve been watching your mission closely and I can’t tell you how proud we are of you. You’re a fantastic team and I know that you’re going to make history with this mission.” His words filled the crew with pride and motivation to continue their mission.

The Artemis II mission, part of NASA’s Artemis program, aims to land the first woman and the next man on the Moon by 2024. This is a significant step in humanity’s journey towards Mars and beyond. The crew of Artemis II, consisting of Commander Neil Armstrong, Command Module Pilot Buzz Aldrin and Lunar Module Pilot Michael Collins, have been on a successful 10-day orbital flight around the Moon.

In his call, President Trump specifically acknowledged the exemplary leadership of NASA Administrator, Jared Isaacman. “I’ll ask Jared to bring you over, and I’ll ask for your autograph because I don’t really ask for autographs,” the President joked. The crew of Artemis II erupted into laughter, jubilant at the thought of personally meeting the President and sharing their experiences with him.

The President also expressed his desire to celebrate the success of the mission with its crew. “I can’t wait to have you all at the White House, it will be my honor to host you and celebrate your accomplishments,” he declared. The crew was filled with excitement at the prospect of visiting the White House and mingling with the President himself.

This isn’t the first time that President Trump has shown his support for NASA’s space exploration endeavors. In 2017, he signed the NASA Transition Authorization Act which supports the goal of sending humans to Mars by the 2030s. He has also shown support for the Artemis program, stating that it will symbolize America’s “commitment to being the leading nation in space”.

Through his call, President Trump has not only recognized the hard work and dedication of the Artemis II crew, but has also reaffirmed his commitment to NASA’s space exploration goals. This gesture of appreciation will motivate not only the current crew but also the future astronauts who will embark on similar missions.

The Artemis II mission has already made history with the first flight of a commercial spacecraft, SpaceX’s Crew Dragon, to the International Space Station (ISS). This call from the President adds to the significance of the mission and serves as a reminder of the importance of space exploration.

As the call came to an end, President Trump ended with a message of encouragement, “You’re doing an incredible job, be careful, have a great time and I’ll talk to you soon.” The crew of Artemis II, now more motivated than ever, will continue their journey around the Moon and return to Earth with newfound inspiration to push the boundaries of space exploration.

In a time where the world is facing multiple challenges, the success of the Artemis II mission serves as a reminder of the resilience and determination of the human spirit. The crew’s bravery and persistence in pursuing this mission is an inspiration to us all. And with the support and encouragement from President Trump, we can only hope for more extraordinary achievements in the future.

The words of President Trump to the crew of Artemis II echo in our minds, “You’re doing a fantastic job and we’re very proud of you.” The entire nation eagerly awaits the return of the crew and the chance to celebrate their historic mission at the White House. We thank the President for his call and we salute the crew of Artemis II for their tremendous dedication and contribution to the advancement of space exploration. Godspeed Artemis II!
