Gaza health system ‘on its knees’: WHO chief

The World Health Organization (WHO) and its Director-General, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, are sounding the alarm over the dire health system in Gaza. As the conflict in the region continues into the winter months, the situation is expected to worsen.

In his remarks on Sunday, Dr. Tedros expressed his condemnation of the deadly attacks launched by militant group Hamas against Israel. He also highlighted the dire health system in Gaza, which has been severely impacted by the ongoing conflict.

According to the WHO, the health system in Gaza has been stretched to its limits and is in urgent need of support. The WHO’s analysis of the situation in Gaza paints a bleak picture, with health facilities and medical staff facing extreme shortages of essential medical supplies, equipment, and personnel. In addition, the conflict has caused widespread destruction of healthcare facilities and the displacement of thousands of people.

The WHO is calling for an immediate end to the conflict in the region, as well as for the full implementation of international humanitarian law to ensure the protection of the health and safety of the people of Gaza. The organization is also calling for urgent action to address the health needs of the people of Gaza, including increased access to medical care, improved health infrastructure, and greater access to safe and clean water.

In order to address the health crisis in Gaza, the WHO is working with the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) and other partners to provide emergency health services to those in need. The organization is also supporting the development of health infrastructure, including the construction of new health centers and the repair of existing facilities.

The WHO is also providing medical supplies and equipment to health facilities in Gaza and is working with partners to ensure the safe delivery of essential medicines and medical supplies. In addition, the organization is supporting the training of medical staff in Gaza and is helping to strengthen the health system by providing support for the development of a comprehensive health information system.

The WHO is also working with the Palestinian Ministry of Health to ensure that the health system in Gaza is able to meet the needs of the population, especially those affected by the conflict. The organization is providing technical and financial support to strengthen the health system in Gaza, including the provision of medical supplies and equipment, and the training of medical staff.

The WHO is calling on the international community to support the people of Gaza and to ensure that their basic health needs are met. The organization is also calling for an immediate end to the conflict and the full implementation of international humanitarian law to ensure the protection of the health and safety of the people of Gaza.

The health system in Gaza is in dire need of support, and the WHO is committed to ensuring that the people of Gaza have access to the medical care they need and deserve. The organization is working with partners to ensure the safe delivery of essential medicines and medical supplies, the development of health infrastructure, and the strengthening of the health system.
