More than 15 families residing in the district of La Pintada, in the province of Coclé, have carried out the first partial harvest of tilapias through the Sustainable Agricultural Community Committee of Cascajal.
This joint project between the community, the Panama Aquatic Resources Authority (ARAP), and Cobre Panamá aims to supply both family consumption and commercialization.
In this first partial harvest, approximately 300 pounds of tilapias were obtained, with an average weight of 1.5 pounds each.
The tilapia harvest will not only provide these families with a quality source of protein but also represents an opportunity to generate economic income.
Additionally, the families have a grinding machine that allows them to transform the fish into nuggets and burgers, adding value to their products.
