The President of the United States, Joe Biden, was received this Monday by King Charles III and the British Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, and highlighted the strength of the alliance with the United Kingdom, on a stopover at the country as part of a tour of Europe.

The meeting between the president and the king at Windsor Castle, near London, was the first between the two heads of state since the coronation of Charles III, in authorities reported.

Upon arriving in Windsor, after a warm welcome and reviewing an honor guard, the 74-year-old king and Biden, 80, shared tea in the Oak Room, Windsor Palace said in a statement.

Later, Carlos led Biden through the so-called White Room and showed him artifacts from the Royal Collection related to the historical relationships between the Royal Family and various US presidents, the note added. international relations, including the war in Ukraine, both governments reported.

In brief remarks before the meeting, Biden’s sixth with the prime minister since Sunak took office, Biden stressed that the relationship between the United States and the UK was rock solid.

Last week, Biden broke with many allies when it announced it would send cluster munitions to Ukraine as part of an $800 million military aid package.

The Sunak government implicitly rejected the decision, reaffirming its adherence to the Munitions Convention in Cluster, the treaty that prohibits the use of these bombs.

The United States is not a signatory to the convention.

After the meetings with Carlos III and Sunak, President Biden flew to Lithuania for a NATO summit that will have Ukraine as one of its axes.
